Consumer Loan Originator
Position Summary
The Consumer Loan Originator is a results-driven sales professional responsible for originating consumer loans, deepening member relationships, and driving loan growth for the credit union. This role focuses on identifying member needs, recommending appropriate lending solutions, and delivering a high-quality, consultative sales experience.
The ideal candidate is proactive, goal-oriented, and committed to providing exceptional service while meeting or exceeding individual production targets.
This position requires participation in a Saturday rotation and occasional travel for training or business needs.

Key Responsibilities

- Proactively identify and pursue lending opportunities through inbound and outbound member interactions
- Interview members to understand financial needs and recommend tailored loan solutions
- Originate, process, and close consumer loan applications efficiently through multiple channels (phone, online, in person)
- Analyze credit reports, income, and debt to structure loans that align with member needs and credit union guidelines
- Deliver clear, confident loan decisions and position alternative solutions when needed to retain and grow relationships
- Consistently cross-sell and refer additional credit union products and services (e.g., credit cards, deposit accounts, protection products)
- Build and maintain strong member relationships to encourage repeat business and referrals
- Meet or exceed established loan production, conversion, and cross-sell goals
- Ensure all loan documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant prior to funding
- Stay current on loan products, promotions, and lending guidelines to effectively position offerings
- Support the rollout and promotion of new products and services
- Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in lending, sales, or a financial institution preferred

- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Certifications and Requirements
- Successful completion of required BSA training
- Must be bondable/insurable
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in an indoor office environment with moderate noise levels. Occasional travel, evening, and weekend hours may be required to support business needs and member demand.
Schedule and Compensation
This is a full-time, non-exempt position offering a competitive base salary plus commission, designed to reward individual performance and production.
Department Hours of Operation:
- Monday – Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (typically one Saturday per month)

Shifts are assigned within department hours and may vary based on business needs:

Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
- Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods

- Communicate effectively (talk and hear)
- Occasionally kneel, crouch, or lift up to 25–30 pounds
